AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2830

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2830 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Visitation Rights Act is amended by
5changing Section 15 as follows:
 
6    (820 ILCS 147/15)
7    Sec. 15. School conference and activity leave.
8    (a) An employer must grant an employee leave of up to a
9total of 16 8 hours during any school year, and no more than 4
10hours of which may be taken on any given day, to attend school
11conferences or classroom activities related to the employee's
12child if the conference or classroom activities cannot be
13scheduled during nonwork hours; however, no leave may be taken
14by an employee of an employer that is subject to this Act
15unless the employee has exhausted all accrued vacation leave,
16personal leave, compensatory leave and any other leave that may

1be granted to the employee except sick leave and disability
2leave. Before arranging attendance at the conference or
3activity, the employee shall provide the employer with a
4written request for leave at least 7 days in advance of the
5time the employee is required to utilize the visitation right.
6In emergency situations, no more than 24 hours' hours notice
7shall be required. The employee must consult with the employer
8to schedule the leave so as not to disrupt unduly the
9operations of the employer.
10    (b) Nothing in this Act requires that the leave be paid.
11    (c) For regularly scheduled, nonemergency visitations,
12schools shall make time available for visitation during both
13regular school hours and evening hours.

15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.".
