AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 106

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 106 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing
5Section 4-7001 as follows:
 
6    (55 ILCS 5/4-7001)  (from Ch. 34, par. 4-7001)
7    Sec. 4-7001. Coroner's fees. The coroner's office may
8collect a fee, not to exceed $10, for each of the following The
9fees of the coroner's office shall be as follows:
10        1. A For a copy of a transcript of sworn testimony:
11    $5.00 per page.
12        2. A For a copy of an autopsy report (if not included
13    in transcript): $50.00.
14        3. A For a copy of the verdict of a coroner's jury:
15    $5.00.
16        4. A For a copy of a toxicology report: $25.00.

1        5. A For a print of or an electronic file containing a
2    picture obtained by the coroner: actual cost or $3.00,
3    whichever is greater.
4        6. Copies For each copy of miscellaneous reports,
5    including artist's drawings but not including police
6    reports: actual cost or $25.00, whichever is greater.
7        7. A For a coroner's or medical examiner's permit to
8    cremate a dead human body: $50.00. The coroner may waive,
9    at his or her discretion, the permit fee if the coroner
10    determines that the person is indigent and unable to pay
11    the permit fee or under other special circumstances.
12    All of which fees shall be certified by the court; in the
13case of inmates of any State charitable or penal institution,
14the fees shall be paid by the operating department or
15commission, out of the State Treasury. The coroner shall file
16his or her claim in probate for his or her fees and he or she
17shall render assistance to the State's attorney in the
18collection of such fees out of the estate of the deceased. In
19counties of less than 1,000,000 population, the State's
20attorney shall collect such fees out of the estate of the
21deceased.
22    Except as otherwise provided in this Section, whenever the
23coroner is required by law to perform any of the duties of the
24office of the sheriff, the coroner is entitled to the like fees
25and compensation as are allowed by law to the sheriff for the
26performance of similar services.

1    Except as otherwise provided in this Section, whenever the
2coroner of any county is required to travel in the performance
3of his or her duties, he or she shall receive the same mileage
4fees as are authorized for the sheriff of such county.
5    All fees under this Section collected by or on behalf of
6the coroner's office shall be paid over to the county treasurer
7and deposited into a special account in the county treasury.
8Moneys in the special account shall be used solely for the
9purchase of electronic and forensic identification equipment
10or other related supplies and the operating expenses of the
11coroner's office.
