SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lester Charles Larson of Cleveland, who
4passed away on October 15, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lester Larson was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa to
6Kenneth and Hazel VanKlaveren Larson on October 12, 1932; he
7was a veteran of the United States Navy; he married Lillian
8Bekerian in Boston, Massachusetts on July 3, 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lester Larson worked as a welder for many years;
10he was later employed as a foreman at John Deere Harvester
11Works and installed HVAC in his spare time; after retiring from
12John Deere, he worked with his sons at their arms manufacturing
13business, Rock Rover Arms, in Colona; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Fondly referred to as "Kong" due to his size,
15Lester Larson was a member of the Colona American Legion Post
161233, where he was a commander, helped add on to the building
17after a fire, and volunteered his time as a cook; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lester Larson enjoyed fishing and mushroom
19hunting, as well as picking wild black raspberries and farming
20sweet corn; he also enjoyed entertaining his family and
21friends; he was an avid sports fan, and cheered on the Chicago

1Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and, back to his "Bostonian" roots,
2the New England Patriots; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lester Larson was preceded in death by his
4parents; his son Mark Larson; and his brother, Herman Larson;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lester Larson is survived by his wife, Lillian;
7his children, Linda (Jim) White, Lisa (Gary) Sides, Mike
8(Debbie Tyner) Larson, and Chuck (Melissa) Larson; his
9grandchildren, Chad, Jennie, Matt, Jeremy, Sara, Katie,
10Kenneth, Kassandra, Kyle, Jake, Trenton, and Logan; his
11great-grandchildren, Kaya, Gage, Paige, Bradlee, Elyn,
12Kinsley, Brinley, and Maddison; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Lester Charles Larson and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Lester Larson as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
