SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Norma Jean Oberholtzer, who passed away
4on August 4, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was born in Chicago to Carl and
6Elizabeth (Mungo) Franzo on March 15, 1939; she was educated in
7Pontiac schools and received her bachelor's and master's
8degrees from Illinois State University; she married Paul
9Gschwendtner in 1958 and Jack Oberholtzer in 1984; and
 
10    WHEREAS, From 1980 to 2000, Norma Oberholtzer taught
11kindergarten, third, and fourth grades for the Pontiac Grade
12School district, where many students claimed her as their
13favorite teacher; from 2000 to 2009, she was an assistant
14instructional professor at Illinois State University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was deeply committed to the
16cultural, social, and economic growth of the communities where
17she lived; she served as a councilwoman for the city of
18Pontiac; she was a member of Rotary Club International, Young
19at Heartland, and the Girls Night Out Club; she supported the
20Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Eastview
21Christian Church in Bloomington; and

1    WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer played the piano, wrote plays,
2hosted a radio program, and was an avid tennis player; she also
3played bridge and Mahjong with friends and enjoyed spending
4time with her family; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was preceded in death by her
6first husband, Paul; her second husband, Jack; her son, Michael
7Gschwendtner; an infant son, Daniel; her parents; and her
8brother, Carl Franzo Jr.; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer is survived by her daughters,
10Laura (Dan Ibrahim) Kelly and Mari Lynn (Rod) Hoselton; her
11daughter-in-law, Anita Gschwendtner; her sister, Arlene Moyer;
12her brothers, Gregory Franzo and Robert Franzo; her
13sister-in-law, Nanci Franzo; her grandchildren, Corey (Kara)
14Jones, Lindsay (Jeremy) Thompson, Andrew Hoselton, Bradley
15Hoselton, Ellie Gschwendtner, Kerry Gschwendtner, and Tracey
16Gschwendtner; her great-grandchildren, Ricky Bradley, Reggie
17Bradley, Brianna Bradley, Zoe Jones, and Lillie and Jase
18Thompson; and her great-nephew, Adam Lopez; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Norma Jean Oberholtzer, and extend our sincere condolences to
22her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
