SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles Curry, who passed away on June
410, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Curry was born in Starkville, Mississippi
6to Annie Laura (Pearson) and George Curry Sr. on July 30, 1938;
7as a young man, he spent time with his father, learning about
8the family businesses, including a grocery store, a gas
9station, and a farm; he would often sneak on to the back of the
10pick up truck to accompany his father; each day he would take
11his father an afternoon snack of homemade cake and a cup of
12coffee; as a child, he was a member of the Zion Franklin United
13Methodist Church in Starkville, where his parents were active
14members; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Charles Curry began selling milk, although he
16never actually milked the cows, and received his first check
17for his service at the age of 12, igniting his entrepreneurial
18spirit; he also learned to drive at an early age, even before
19he was tall enough to see over the steering wheel; he drove the
20school bus to transport his classmates to school, sparking his
21love for driving and appreciation of cars; he loved old cars
22and believed they should always be clean; he could often be
23found washing his truck or one of his cars outside of C. P.

1Grinding; and
 
2    WHEREAS, After graduating high school, Charles Curry
3traveled to Chicago, working briefly as a cook and as a
4machinist in the grinding business; he took to the grinding
5business and eventually purchased his own machine shop with his
6brother; they became successful small business owners for over
740 years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Charles Curry married Henry Alice in 1957 and they
9had three children; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Charles Curry joined Grant Memorial AME Church and
11was active with the men's group; he could be found in the
12church kitchen cooking his specialty of salmon croquettes,
13singing with the men's choir, or even helping with the church
14finances; he devoted his entire life to his work and his
15family; his home was the gathering place for family and
16friends; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charles Curry was preceded in death by his
18parents; his sister, Louise; and his daughters, Felecia and
19Audrey; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Charles Curry is survived by his wife, Henry
21Alice; his daughters, Angela (Alfonzo) and Beverly; his

1grandchildren, Jareem, Jamel, Charlene, Christa, Christopher,
2and Jai; his great-grandchildren, Brian, David, D'andre,
3Lamore', and Jeremiah; his siblings, Catherine (Cleveland),
4Margaret, Zelda, George Jr., Sammie, and Isaac (Bobbie); and
5numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Charles Curry, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Charles Curry as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
