SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold Leo "Harry" King, formerly of
4McHenry, who passed away on May 13, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry King was born in McHenry to Leo and Mae King
6on June 10, 1940; raised on a dairy farm, he and his siblings
7learned about the value of hard work, family, faith and
8community at an early age by working with his family to milk
9Holstein dairy cows and tend the fields; he attended McHenry
10High School, where he was an active member of the Future
11Farmers of America; he married Lynn C. Sturdy on April 4, 1964;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harry King and his family relocated to
14Brownsville, Wisconsin in 1976, where he expanded his farm; he
15was an early riser and continued to be so even after the dairy
16cows were sold, which allowed him to focus on growing corn,
17soybeans, wheat, and peas; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Harry King was a proud member of the Empire
19Threshing Association and a participant in the Illinois Farm
20Bureau Tractor Trek; he enjoyed time away from the farm at the
21lakes of northern Wisconsin and Canada, where he fished and
22camped; he also loved to hunt deer and turkey; he was always on

1the lookout for the next new piece of modern farm equipment to
2add to his collection; he enjoyed his daily breakfast and the
3stories he shared with his breakfast friends; in 2012, he and
4his wife began spending winters in Winter Haven, Florida, where
5he enjoyed fishing, having dinner with friends, and driving
6around the neighborhood in a souped-up golf cart; he and Lynn
7also loved to travel, but nothing gave him more joy than his
8grandchildren; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harry King was preceded in death by his parents;
10his brother, Tom King; his in-laws, Alan and Lee Sturdy; his
11brother-in-law, Ted Schaefer; his nephews, Ron and Dan
12Schaefer; and his niece, Linda (Schaefer) Clark; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harry King is survived by his wife, Lynn; his
14children, Brian (Chris) King, Rob (Janel) King, Kelly (Tom)
15Griesemer, and Brett (Donna) King; his grandchildren, Trent,
16Travis, and Connor Griesemer, Katelyn and Madelyn King, and
17Cooper and Tucker King; his sister, Donna Schaefer; and his
18brother-in-law, Dave (Libby) Sturdy; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Harold Leo "Harry" King and extend our sincere condolences to
22his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
