SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rosemary Robinson Jackson Ph.D. of
4Chicago, who passed away on February 7, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was born on Chicago's West Side on
6December 22, 1946; she received her Ph.D. from Loyola
7University and a Master of Arts from both the National College
8of Education and DePaul University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson began her career as an English teacher
10at her alma mater, John Marshall High School; she went on to
11teach at Hyde Park High School, Kennedy-King College, and
12DePaul University; she served as vice president for Educational
13Media and Distance Learning at Kennedy-King from 2007 to 2010;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was the vice chairman and chief
16administrative officer at Chicago-based Central City
17Productions, which she helped develop with her lifelong partner
18and husband, Don Jackson; she served as Research Director and
19Associate Producer of the Black College Quiz and the Hispanic
20College Quiz - two nationally-syndicated television programs
21developed by Central City Productions; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson remained active in her local community
2and was committed to public service through her sorority, Delta
3Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for which she chaired several
4committees during her 50-year tenure as an active member, and
5which her daughter, Rhonda, is an active member today; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson's professional memberships included
7the National Council of Teachers of English, the National
8Association for Developmental Education, the Association for
9the Study of African American Life and History (SAALH), and Phi
10Beta Kappa; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was an avid sports fan; she loved
12tennis, basketball, baseball, and football; she was also a
13devotee of the arts and all types of dancing including Bopping,
14Stepping, and Line Dancing; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson is survived by her beloved husband of
1652 years, Don; her mother, Rosalie Gray; her siblings, Carrie
17Murphy, Erma Gray Davis (Dan), and Calvin Gray (Ruth); her
18daughter, Rhonda Jackson Sams (Ray); her son, Baba Dainja; her
19grandchildren, Donovan, Dain, and Riley Rose; and numerous
20nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Rosemary Robinson Jackson Ph.D., and extend our sincere
2condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Dr. Jackson as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
