SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Zia Hassan Ph.D., who passed away on
4October 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan received his bachelor's degree in
6mechanical engineering at the University of Punjab in Pakistan
7and migrated to United States in the 1956; he earned his
8master's degree in l958 and his doctorate in 1965 in industrial
9engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago
10(IIT); and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan began his career as a lecturer at IIT
12in the early 1960s and became Dean of the Stuart School of
13Business; he taught business policy and quality management; he
14published over 30 papers, co-authored Basic Programs for
15Production and Operations Management, and wrote the chapter
16"Design of Interrelated Manufacturing and Quality Systems" in
17the Manufacturing High Technology Handbook; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan was a Fellow of the American Society
19for Quality and served as an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige
20National Quality Award; he was one of the founding members and
21the first chairman of board of trustees for the Islamic
22Foundation in Villa Park; he was chairman of the Islamic

1Foundation for over 40 years and during his tenure it grew from
2a small weekend religious school to one of the largest Islamic
3Centers in the United States; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan was the Chairman Emeritus of the
5Islamic Foundation and Dean Emeritus of IIT's Stuart School of
6Business; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan is survived by his wife, Dr. Shakeela
8Hassan; three daughters; and five grandchildren; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Zia Hassan Ph.D., and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dr. Hassan as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
