SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Herbert Arthur "Herb" Henderson of
4Tremont, who passed away on October 13, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was born in Delavan to Virgil and
6Ramona Naffziger Henderson on June 12, 1921; he graduated from
7Mackinaw High School in 1940 and joined the United States Army
8in 1942, serving with the 30th Infantry Division, "Old
9Hickory"; he took part in the landing on Omaha Beach on June
1010, 1944, D-Day plus 4; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge
11and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart; he returned
12home in 1945 aboard the Queen Mary and married Ruth Evelyn
13Schwinn in Tremont on July 24, 1948; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Herb Henderson worked for Caterpillar for 36
15years, retiring in 1982; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was a member of the Tremont Baptist
17Church, Tremont Masonic Lodge 462, and a charter member of
18Tremont American Legion Post 1236; he enjoyed basketball and
19listening to his country music; he flew to Washington, D.C., on
20the inaugural Greater Peoria Honor Flight in June of 2013; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was preceded in death by his

1parents; his brothers, Verle and Randall; and his sister, Lois
2Tamiyasu; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Herb Henderson is survived by his wife, Ruth; his
4daughter, Sue Ellen Henderson; and his beloved dachshund,
5Barney; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Herbert Arthur "Herb" Henderson, and extend our sincere
9condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
10him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Herb Henderson as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
