SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Delores "Lois" B. Graham, who passed away
4on September 9, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lois Graham was born on September 19, 1947 to
6James Beadin and Dovie Leon Conway, who later married Albert
7Cheeks; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lois Graham married Columbus Graham in 1965; to
9this union, five children were born; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lois Graham loved spending time with her children,
11passing on her gifts and talents to them, including playing the
12piano, cooking, and most especially, singing; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lois Graham worked for the United States Post
14Office, and later for Lord and Taylor on Michigan Avenue in
15Chicago; it was there that she acquired her taste for "the nice
16things" in life; and
 
17    WHEREAS, When Lois Graham was younger, she worshiped at the
18Bethlehem Healing Temple; she later joined Grace Deliverance
19Tabernacle and then the Apostolic Church of God; and

1    WHEREAS, Lois Graham and her family extended deep roots
2into their community, giving of their time and talents; her
3daughter, Deborah L. Graham, served as 78th District
4Representative in the Illinois House of Representatives from
51995 to 2010, and in the Chicago City Council as Alderman of
6the 29th Ward from 2010 to 2015; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ten days after Lois Graham's passing, her friends
8and family gathered on her 70th birthday to celebrate her life
9with a balloon release in her honor; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lois Graham was preceded in death by her father,
11Albert Cheeks, and her biological father, James Beadin; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lois Graham is survived by her mother, Dovie Leon
13Cheeks; her husband, Columbus; her children, Eddie, Roger,
14Deborah, Wayne, and Columbus; her brothers, Albert, Ronald, and
15Donnell; her sister, Alice (Joe); 14 grandchildren; four
16great-grandchildren; one niece; and numerous relatives and
17friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Delores "Lois" B. Graham, and extend our sincere condolences to
21her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
22further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Delores "Lois" B. Graham as an
3expression of our deepest sympathy.
