SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the deaths of Paul Martin Freund and Dolores
4Sokolowski-Freund of McHenry, who passed away on August 2,
52017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Paul Freund was born in McHenry to Herbert and
7Hilda Freund on October 31, 1931; he graduated from McHenry
8High School, where he was a three sport athlete; he served in
9the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star; he married Joan
10M. Scholz on April 30 1955; after her passing, he married
11Dolores Sokolowski on June 22, 2009; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund was born in Marquette,
13Michigan to Rita (Neault) and Thomas Mercure on February 2,
141937; she married Richard Sokolowski at St. Mary Church in
15McHenry on January 31, 1959; after his passing, she married
16Paul Freund on June 22, 2009; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Paul Freund was a partner with his brother,
18Eugene, and his brother-in-law, Bob Freund, for the third
19generation of S.H. Freund & Son general contractors until he
20retired in 1990; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Paul Freund's favorite destination was his

1beloved vacation home in northern Wisconsin; he loved to fish,
2garden, bowl, and enjoyed helping others; his favorite sport
3was baseball; he played 3rd base and pitched for the McHenry
4Shamrocks and later for Old Bridge Tavern; his generosity
5spilled over into more than a dozen different charities
6annually; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund was a pharmacy
8technician at McHenry Drugs for more than 15 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund volunteered her time at
10FISH of McHenry Food Pantry, the McHenry County Farm Bureau Ag.
11Expo, the Sparrow's Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center, and
12the Pioneer Center for Human Services; spending time with her
13brother Butchie at the Pioneer Center meant the world to her;
14she was an active member and volunteer at St. Mary Catholic
15Church; her hobbies included bowling, card games, fishing,
16swimming, yoga, and traveling; she was very proud of her home
17improvement projects and always looked forward to working on
18new challenges; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Paul and Dolores Freund enjoyed traveling,
20bowling, fishing, and being together; they loved their family
21and treasured family gatherings; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Paul Freund was preceded in death by his first

1wife, Joan; his parents; his brother, Eugene Freund; his
2sister, Joan Freund; his brother-in-law, George Gilpin; and his
3granddaughter, Jennifer Freund; Dolores was preceded in death
4by her first husband, Richard Sokolowski; her parents; and her
5siblings, Carol Ketchum, Gilbert Mercure, and Darrell Mercure;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Paul Freund is survived by his sons, Mark Freund,
8Steve (Trinette) Freund, and Chris (Nancy) Freund; his
9grandchildren, Ryan (Tiffany) Freund, Kaley Freund, Erin
10Freund, and Peyton Freund; his sister, Barbara Gilpin; his
11sister-in-law, Frances Freund; and his brothers-in-law, Robert
12Freund and Robert (Frances) Scholz; Dolores is survived by her
13son, Tom (Sue) Sokolowski; her granddaughters, Amanda (John)
14and Cassie; and her siblings, John (Jenna) Mercure, Rose
15(Wayne) Wirfs, Richard (Marge) Mercure, Donald (Judy) Mercure,
16and Butch Mercure; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Paul Martin Freund and Dolores Sokolowski-Freund, and extend
20our sincere condolences to their family, friends, and all who
21knew and loved them; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23presented to the family of Paul Freund and Dolores
