SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roy L. Hertel of Hillsboro, who passed
4away on May 25, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was born in Du Quoin to Leonard "Jake"
6and Nola Burnetta (Annear) Hertel on February 7, 1949; he
7graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967; he earned his
8bachelor's degree in history and political science from
9Greenville College and then completed his postgraduate studies
10at Georgetown University and Southern Illinois University in
11Edwardsville; he married Nanci Mauton at the Christian Church
12Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro on December 27, 1980; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roy Hertel assisted with the services at Bass
14Funeral Home in Hillsboro and was a school teacher in Coffeen;
15he served as the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk and as a
16regional administrator with the Department of Montgomery
17County Health and Human Services; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was a member of the Christian Church
19Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro; he was a 45-year member of
20the Lions Club, where he had held all offices and was district
21lieutenant governor and district governor in 1991 and 1992; he
22was the president of the Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 51 A.F. and A.M.

1of Hillsboro and a member of Hillsboro Moose Lodge #1377; he
2served as president of the Circuit Clerk Association and as
3chairman of the Montgomery County Board; he was a member of the
4Hillsboro Sports Association, where he was very involved in the
5building of the new sports complex; he received the Sertoma
6Service to Mankind Award in 2004 and the Hillsboro Chamber
7Award in 2014; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was preceded in death by his father,
9Leonard Hertel; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roy Hertel is survived by his wife, Nanci; his
11son, James Leonard (Nichole) Hertel; his mother, Nola Hertel;
12and his grandson, Graysen James Roy Hertel; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Roy L. Hertel, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Roy Hertel as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
