SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Studies have shown that the bond between people
3and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring
4happiness to their owners; and
 
5    WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
6Prevention, pet ownership has been shown to have positive
7health benefits to humans such as decreases in blood pressure,
8cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and feelings of
9loneliness; in addition, it increases opportunities for
10outdoor activities and socialization; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Routine pet health care is important to having a
12happy and healthy pet that enjoys life and interaction with its
13owner; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The American Veterinary Medical Association and
15the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association recommend that
16pets be seen annually by a licensed veterinarian for a physical
17exam, vaccinations, heartworm testing, fecal parasite exams,
18dental evaluation, and other preventative care as needed; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Regular exams can identify small issues that can
20become impediments to a pet's overall quality of health if left
21untreated and can enhance the long term quality of life for

1both the pet and its owners; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the week of
4April 8-14, 2018 as Healthy Pet Week in the State of Illinois;
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That all Illinois pet owners are encouraged to
7take time during Healthy Pet Week to review their pet's health
8needs and make arrangements with their veterinarians to have
9annual exams and evaluations performed if they have not yet
10done so in order to enhance and extend their pet's quality of
11life.
