SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Decker Jr. of Rock Island,
4who passed away on April 28, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Decker was born in Peoria to Robert Sr. and
6Helen Decker on May 31, 1940; he served in the United States
7Army and married Barbara Bates in Rock Island on February 16,
81962; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Decker was employed with Dohrn Transfer as
10a driver and in management for 43 years until his retirement;
11he was also a volunteer firefighter in the Blackhawk Fire
12Protection District; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In his earlier years, Robert Decker was involved
14in coaching youth baseball and Optimist League basketball; he
15coached the Milan American Legion baseball team for 16 to 18
16year olds, and Little League and Babe Ruth teams for more than
1710 years; he enjoyed attending and following his
18grandchildren's sporting events, meeting his morning coffee
19group at McDonald's, and playing golf with his friends on
20Sundays; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Robert Decker was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge

1No. 69 A.F. & A.M.; he was an avid fan of the St. Louis
2Cardinals and the Chicago Bears; he enjoyed following the San
3Francisco Giants, for whom his son, Steve, played and is
4currently the assistant batting coach; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Decker was preceded in death by his wife,
6Barbara; his parents; and his brother, Tom; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Decker is survived by his children,
8Catherine Rankin, Stephen (Maite) Decker, and Chris (John)
9Polzin; his stepson, Jeff Koester; his grandchildren, Jennifer
10Martin, Cody Rankin, Hailey Decker, Cammie Decker, and Nicole
11Polzin; his step-granddaughter, Lana Descamps; four
12great-grandchildren; his sisters, Janet, Judy, and Patricia;
13his brother, Richard; his fiancee, Coral Rudsell; one
14great-grandchild; extended family, Jeff (Susan) Johnson, Kevin
15(Rhonda) Johnson, Laurel Johnson, Merritt Johnson, and Kevin
16Johnson; and many other loving family members and friends;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Robert "Bob" Decker Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
