SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Many students in all levels of public schools
3benefit from the opportunity to participate in activities
4involving nature and the environment; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Activities which better our communities and the
6areas in which we live are an integral part of the education of
7our young people; and
 
8    WHEREAS, It is always a special benefit when communities
9can directly gain from the efforts of public school programs;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Recently students from Pontiac Township High
12School's Science and Life Skills classes, TriPoint High
13School's National Honor Society and Science classes, Prairie
14Central's Grade School and Life Skills classes, Prairie Central
15High School Life Skills class, and Heartland Community College
16Science classes have collaborated on The Bluebird Project which
17will benefit all of their communities; and
 
18    WHEREAS, These students have rallied their communities and
19have helped to install hundreds of bluebird houses throughout
20the area with the goal of attracting the eastern bluebird back
21to its native habitat; and

1    WHEREAS, A community event, the second annual Bluebird
2Festival, is to be held in honor of this native bird and will
3feature decorations of artwork created by primary school
4students; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The students and teachers should be recognized for
6their efforts and their team spirit toward this notable
7project; and
 
8    WHEREAS, With this project being a collaboration of
9students, schools, and communities the teamwork and
10cooperation demonstrated is noteworthy, exciting, and
11significant in multiple forms; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The growth of our area, the beauty of our
13environment, the strength of our communities, and the character
14of our youth are all enhanced by the efforts and spirit of
15these students; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 4, 2017
18as "Bluebird Project Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we urge other schools in the State of

1Illinois to follow these schools in doing similar efforts to
2strengthen and unify communities, beautify the environment,
3and build camaraderie across the State of Illinois; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
6delivered to Pontiac Township High School, TriPoint High
7School, Prairie Central Grade School, Prairie Central High
8School, and Heartland Community College.
