SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Oliver "Bob" Case, who passed away
4on February 11, 2017 at the age of 95; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Case was born in Detroit, Michigan to
6Arthur B. and Elsie E. Watts Case; he attended St. Andrew's
7School in Barrington, Rhode Island, where he won the King
8Medal; he was captain of his high school football, basketball,
9and baseball teams; he continued to play sports in college,
10having declined an invitation to train with the Boston Red Sox;
11he was awarded an undergraduate scholarship to Brown University
12and earned a law degree at Columbia Law School; he served in
13the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II in
14General Eisenhower's SHAEF command headquarters in Europe; he
15married Marian in 1953 and they settled in Deerfield; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Robert Case worked as an attorney for the United
17States Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C.; he rose to
18the rank of Captain as a JAG officer for the U.S. Air Force
19Reserve in Chicago; for the majority of his career he worked in
20private practice in Chicago; he started his own law firm which
21later became Walsh, Case, Coale, Brown & Burke; he completed
22his legal career, which spanned 55 years, with Holland and
23Knight; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Case was an avid reader of history and
2biographies; he loved to debate world affairs and play golf; he
3was a long time member of the Exmoor Country Club and served on
4its board of directors; he and his family enjoyed wonderful
5times at their vacation home in Green Lake, Wisconsin and many
6winters on Jupiter Island, Florida; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Case was passionate about aviation; he
8obtained his pilot's license and was active in the
9Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association; he periodically flew free
10medical flights for the Angel Flight network; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Case was the beloved husband of the late
12Marian Burke Case; the devoted father of Robert A.
13(Mary-Suzanne) Case, Leila A. Case (Charles Meyer), John G.
14(Karen) Case, Mary Deirdre (Gregory) Case Patchen, Pamela J.
15(Christoph) Case Stanger, Maureen M. Case, and the late
16Jennifer S. Case; the loving grandfather of Carl Case, Sarah
17Case, Colleen Case, Scott Case, Michael Stanger, Aaron Grace,
18Alexa Stanger, Nicholas Stanger, and Thomas Stanger; the fond
19step-grandfather of Philip Meyer, Katherine (Kevin) Meyer
20Bruffy, and Evan Meyer; and the step-great-grandfather of
21Elliot and Whitney Bruffy; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Robert Oliver "Bob" Case, and extend our sincere condolences to
3his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Robert Case as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
