SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Chris R. Stevens, a 50-year resident of Lake Forest, who passed away on December 28, 2016 at the age of 67; and

WHEREAS, Chris Stevens was born in Evanston; she attended elementary schools at Saints Faith, Hope & Charity in Winnetka, and the School of St. Mary in Lake Forest; she graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1967, and Barat College in 1971 with a degree in sociology; she had the opportunity to spend her junior year of high school in South Korea, where she made many friendships that have lasted through the years and where she was also a cheerleader for EASCOM; and

WHEREAS, Following graduation, Chris Stevens began a long and fulfilling career of service with Lake County CETA/Private Industry Council leading to her role as Director for Job Placement and Training; her care and concern for the well-being of others was also shared through years of volunteer efforts with United Way of Lake County where she served as Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Chris Stevens was known for her outstanding cooking skills and the beautiful results of her gardening; she spent summers boating on Lake Michigan where she could kick back and read or catch up with friends; her love of water took her scuba diving and fishing in the Florida Keys; one of her prize catches was a 54 inch 45 pound Barracuda; her ultimate love was time spent with family but most especially the deep love she shared with her husband, Scott, and their son, Paul; her laughter, sense of fun, concern for others, and honesty will be sorely missed; and

WHEREAS, Chris Stevens was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Madelyn Reitz; and her father-in-law, John Stevens; and

WHEREAS, Chris Stevens is survived by her husband of over 43 years, Scott Stevens; her son, Paul (Tara) Stevens; her grandchildren, Jake and Parker Stevens; her sisters Debbie and Diane Reitz; her mother-in-law, Bev Stevens; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy Hendershot, Mike Stevens, Lyn (Curt) Drathring, and Ole (Sonya) Stevens; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Chris R. Stevens, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chris Stevens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
