SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
Creates the Mass Transportation Safety Act. Provides that a mass
transportation carrier shall provide to a person operating a commercial
motor vehicle for the purpose of providing mass transportation a rest
period of not less than 10 minutes for every segment of 4 hours, or major
part thereof, to use the nearest convenient restroom without deduction from
the employee's pay. Provides that the Act does not prohibit employers and
employees from establishing, under a collective bargaining agreement,
appropriate rest periods different from those provided in the Act. Defines

AN ACT concerning safety.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
This Act may be cited as the
Transportation Safety Act.
The purpose of this Act is to provide
for the health of mass transportation employees and the safety
of transit passengers, other commercial and non-commercial
motor vehicle operators, and pedestrians.
In this Act:
"Appropriate rest period" means a period of rest of not
less than 10 minutes for every segment of 4 hours, or major
part thereof, worked in one work period.
"Carrier" means any corporation, authority, partnership,
association, person, or district authorized to provide mass
transportation within this State.
"Mass transportation" means transportation provided within
this State by rail, bus, or other conveyance and available to
the general public on a regular and continuing, basis,
including the transportation of elderly persons or persons with
a disability, as defined in Section 2705-310 of the Department
of Transportation Law.
