SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
330 ILCS 110/1.1  from Ch. 21, par. 59a1

    Amends the Veterans Burial Places Act. Provides that when a headstone or memorial marker is provided for a United States War Veteran pursuant to specified federal law by the federal government, the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall pay an amount not to exceed $300 (currently, $100) to the next of kin or cemetery official responsible for the cost of transporting and erecting the headstone or memorial. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning military service.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Veterans Burial Places Act is amended by
5changing Section 1.1 as follows:
 
6    (330 ILCS 110/1.1)  (from Ch. 21, par. 59a1)
7    Sec. 1.1. When a headstone or memorial marker is provided
8for a United States War Veteran by the United States Government
9pursuant to Section 2306 of Title 38 of the United States Code,
10the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall pay an amount not to
11exceed $300 $100 to the next of kin or cemetery official
12responsible for the cost of transporting and erecting the
13headstone or memorial. However, no such payment shall be made
14unless a signed application is presented to the Department by
15the next of kin or cemetery official, along with such other
16proof of transportation or erection charges as the Department
17may require. All such applications for payment shall be on
18forms provided by the Department.

20    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21becoming law.
