HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate State Rep. Bob Pritchard
4on his retirement and recognize his years of service to the
5State of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard was born on February 2, 1945; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard and his wife, Mary, met at the
8University of Illinois and were married in 1968; they have two
9children, Matthew and Gregory, and four grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard studied communications at the
11University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received
12his bachelor's and master's degrees; he enjoyed working in
13communications, beginning as a radio and TV broadcaster for a
14regional station in Iowa and moving on to work for two
15universities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard accumulated over 23 years of
17experience in public relations, marketing, and community
18affairs while working for DeKalb Genetics, a Monsanto Company;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Prior to joining the General Assembly, Rep.

1Pritchard got his start on the Hinckley-Big Rock School Board
2and later was the DeKalb County Board Chairman; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard was elected to the Illinois House
4of Representatives in 2003 and proudly served the 70th
5Legislative District for 15 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Growing up on a farm near Maple Park, Rep.
7Pritchard learned the values of hard work, dedication, and
8persistence which were instilled in his earliest years; this
9philosophy was reflected in the way he represented his
10constituents; he listened, studied the issues, and worked for
11the best interests of his district and the citizens of
12Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard's family farming operation
14included corn, soybeans, oats, alfalfa, dairy, beef, horses,
15and chickens; he and his family continue to operate their farm,
16now in its 7th generation; and
 
17    WHEREAS, With his background in communications and his
18passion for agriculture, Rep. Pritchard served as Executive
19Director of the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure serving the residents of

1DeKalb, Boone, Ogle, and Kane Counties, Rep. Pritchard has
2diligently worked for the betterment of the district on a wide
3variety of issues including early childhood and education,
4healthcare, conservation and the environment, job creation,
5and protecting the manufacturing industry; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard's expertise in education was
7invaluable to the General Assembly, and he will remain a
8recognized leader regarding education policy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard led negotiations for education
10funding reform and worked tirelessly to pass historic education
11funding reform legislation in 2017, an accomplishment that made
12great progress toward adequately and equitably funding
13Illinois schools and providing the best future for Illinois
14students; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard's passion for education did not
16stop in State government; he was a great teacher and leader in
17the community; he held a youth council every year which
18gathered bright students from across his district for
19insightful dialogue about government and current events; he
20promoted continuous learning for students through his annual
21summer reading program and supported arts in the schools
22through a legislative art contest; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard enjoyed connecting with
2constituents in his district through various outreach events,
3such as his annual senior health fair, which helped make
4services and resources available to local senior citizens; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Pritchard's impressive career in the House of
6Representatives and his accomplishments in the community will
7help him find future success beyond the General Assembly as he
8continues his career as a board member at Northern Illinois
9University; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate State Rep. Bob Pritchard on his retirement and
13recognize his years of service to the State of Illinois; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Rep. Pritchard as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
