HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague, State
4Rep. Reggie Phillips, on the occasion of his retirement as
5State Representative of the ll0th District after serving three
6distinguished terms in the General Assembly; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips grew up in Arthur; after graduating
8high school, he and his wife, Martha, received their
9associate's degrees from Lakeland College; they went on to
10obtain their Bachelor of Science degrees from Eastern Illinois
11University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips and Martha have been married for 39
13years and currently reside in Charleston; they have four adult
14children and 10 grandchildren; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In addition to his commitment to public service,
16Rep. Phillips and Martha started a residential and commercial
17building business in Charleston in 1986, which now employs
18approximately 400 people; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips has made a positive impact in our
20state during his six years of service in the General Assembly;

1    WHEREAS, During the budget impasse, Rep. Phillips played a
2key role in advocating for his district, especially Eastern
3Illinois University; in July of 2017, following a multi-year
4budget stalemate, he successfully secured funding for Eastern
5Illinois University in the state budget; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Not only did Rep. Phillips fight for EIU, he has
7been a voice for making Illinois a more competitive and
8attractive place to live and conduct business; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips' commitment to public service and
10business experience has been invaluable to the General Assembly
11and the House Republican Caucus; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14honor State Representative Reggie Phillips for his work in the
15Illinois House of Representatives and wish him our best on his
16retirement; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Rep. Phillips as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
