HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate State Rep. Steven
4Andersson on his retirement and recognize his years of service
5to the State of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson was born in Midlothian on August
715, 1964; he and his wife, Nanette, have been residents of
8Geneva for 26 years; they have been married for 31 years and
9have two children, Matthew and Sarah; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson earned his bachelor's degree from
11Northern Illinois University in 1986 and his Juris Doctor from
12Northern Illinois University in 1992, where he graduated Magna
13Cum Laude; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a small business owner and has
15been a licensed attorney for more than two decades; he is a
16partner at the law firms of Mickey, Wilson, Weiler, Renzi and
17Andersson, P.C. and the Elder Law Center, P.C.; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has a long-standing history of
19serving the local community; he served as a trustee and
20treasurer on the Geneva Library District Board in addition to
21being a Republican Precinct Committeeman for Geneva's 3rd

1Precinct; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Eager to continue his public service, Rep.
3Andersson was sworn in to serve the 65th Legislative District
4of the Illinois House of Representative on January 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has been a strong advocate for
6mental health awareness during his service in the General
7Assembly, backing legislation to support mental health issues
8while promoting local initiatives in his 65th district
9community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In a massive undertaking, Rep. Andersson worked to
11improve the criminal justice system as sponsor of House Bill
124584, making the fee structure for criminal and civil court
13cases more manageable and transparent for Illinois residents;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a champion of bipartisanship and
16worked diligently across the aisle; his support of the Equal
17Rights Amendment is a great example of this, and his advocacy
18has been integral in moving the initiative forward to secure
19equality for all women; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson led the bipartisan effort to pass a
21balanced State budget after 734 days of impasse; the

1agreed-upon, timely budget came together through good honest
2negotiations across party lines; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has long supported historic
4preservation and proudly served as the Co-Chair of the Illinois
5Historic Preservation Caucus; in 2018, he was part of a
6bipartisan effort to create a new Illinois Historic
7Preservation Tax Credit to improve Illinois communities while
8retaining the culture and history of the State; his efforts for
9historic preservation culminated in being named Landmarks
10Illinois 2018 Legislator of the Year; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a supporter of the environment;
12he has been recognized annually by the Illinois Environmental
13Council for his commitment to environmental issues; he has also
14been a proponent of clean energy and held community forums to
15discuss the issue with constituents and interest groups; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson created Gold Star Family Day in
17Illinois through House Bill 4389 in the 99th General Assembly;
18this day serves as a day to honor and commemorate the entire
19families of the men and women who gave their lives while
20serving their country; an important day, this legislation gives
21military families the honor and recognition they truly deserve
22in Illinois and across the country; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson served as the voice of the caucus
2in his position as floor leader during the 100th General
3Assembly and proudly led meaningful debates in the House of
4Representatives; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson was recognized by various
6organizations with awards for his work in the House of
7Representatives, such as the Purple Tie Award for
8Bi-Partisanship in 2018 by the Metro West Council of
9Government, the Illinois Association of School Social Workers
10Legislator of the Year, the Illinois Pork Producers Legislator
11of the Year, the American Institute of Architects-Illinois
12Legislator of the Year, and the Illinois Association of Park
13Districts Legislator of the Year; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is dedicated to serving as the
15voice of his community; he led meaningful discussions with his
16constituent advocacy group, the 65th District Dialogue; he
17routinely visited local schools through the Principal for the
18Day Program; his annual summer reading program has been wildly
19popular among local students every year, and he happily
20welcomed countless Pages for the Day and school groups in
21Springfield; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has shown a great commitment to
23improving Illinois, through his advocacy for effective

1government reform and his compassion in serving his
2constituents throughout his time in the House of
3Representatives; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate State Rep. Steven Andersson on his retirement and
7recognize his years of service to the State of Illinois, and we
8wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Rep. Andersson as a symbol of our respect and
12esteem.
