HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald
4Leroy "Don" Thompson of Montgomery, who passed away on October
526, 2018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Don Thompson was born in Fenton to Roy and Eva
7Thompson on October 19, 1920; he graduated from East Aurora
8High School in 1938 and then studied engineering at North
9Central College and the University of Illinois until he entered
10the United States Navy flight training program in 1942; he
11earned his gold wings and was commissioned a Naval Aviator; he
12married Doris Edith Trudel in Aurora on July 24, 1945; after
13serving active duty for four years during World War II and 16
14years reserve duty, he retired at the rank of Lieutenant
15Commander in 1980; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Don Thompson was employed by Lyon Metal Products
17for 36 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in
19Massachusetts in 1955, Don Thompson became a 32nd degree Mason
20and Shriner in 1973; he served as a secretary of the Aurora
21Shrine Club and was awarded a life membership; he was a life
22member of the Military Officers Association, the Navy League,

1the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club, the American Legion
2Post 84, the Aurora Masonic Lodge #254, the Scottish Rite, and
3the Medinah Shrine Temple in Addison; he was on the second
4Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington D.C. in June 2008; he
5spent the last 20 years volunteering at Rush Copley Hospital;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Don Thompson was preceded in death by his wife,
8Doris; his parents; and his brothers, Jack and Raymond; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Thompson is survived by his daughter, Beverly
10Thompson; his son, Bruce (Mary) Thompson; his grandson, Brian
11(Katie Little) Thompson; his great-granddaughter, Ashley
12(Kevin) Sitkowski; his great-great-granddaughter, Leia Grace
13Sitkowski and another great-great-granddaughter due in
14November; and his many cherished friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of Donald Leroy "Don" Thompson and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Don Thompson as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
