HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Jonathan Lavin on the
4occasion of his retirement as the President and CEO of
5AgeOptions after 40 years of service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jonathan Lavin graduated from Niles Township West
7High School and then attended Bowling Green State University
8for two years; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government
9from American University in 1970; he then earned his Master of
10Public Administration from American University in 1972; he has
11served as the Chief Executive Officer of AgeOptions, formerly
12the Suburban Area Agency on Aging, a non-profit corporation
13that promotes services for older people, protects their rights,
14and offers them opportunities, since 1978; and
 
15    WHEREAS, As President and CEO, Jonathan Lavin is
16responsible for an internal budget of $3.7 million, $14.5
17million in grants, contracts with 45 community-based service
18agencies, and a staff of 45; he advocates for greater support
19for senior programs at the local, State and federal level; he
20prepares advocacy alerts, develops and maintains legislative
21contacts in the federal and state legislatures, and networks
22with a number of organizations on legislative matters; and

1    WHEREAS, Jonathan Lavin provides leadership to senior
2service programs throughout suburban Cook County, including
3public information activities and the presentation of oral and
4written testimony to public officials; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jonathan Lavin has served with many associations,
6including as president of the Illinois Association of Area
7Agencies on Aging, past region five elected director to the
8National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, past member of
9the board of directors of the American Society on Aging, past
10member of the board of directors for the National Council on
11Aging, former president of the Illinois Coalition on Aging, and
12as a congressional appointed delegate at the White House
13Conference on Aging in 1995 and 2005; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jonathan Lavin is married with two children; he
15has worked in the field of aging for 45 years; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18congratulate Jonathan Lavin on the occasion of his retirement
19as the President and CEO of AgeOptions, and we commend his
20dedication to the field of aging and the State of Illinois; and
21be it further
