HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Pastor Kelon D. Duke on
4the occasion of his sixth year at Calvary Baptist Church in
5Glenwood; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor Duke was raised in Miami, Florida and
7accepted his call to ministry at the age of 17; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pastor Duke graduated from Morehouse College in
9Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in
10Religion, with a minor in Philosophy; he received his Master of
11Divinity degree from Howard University School of Divinity in
12Washington, D.C.; in August of 2014, he successfully defended
13his doctoral dissertation at the United Theological Seminary in
14Dayton, Ohio and received his Doctor of Ministry degree; his
15doctoral project and research interests focused on prophetic
16preaching in a post-modern context with a contemporary
17audience; his original research project was entitled, "Moving
18the church from being the victim of hurt to ministering in
19victory"; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Pastor Duke gained ministry experience at the
21Greater Traveler's Rest Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia
22during his matriculation at Morehouse College; he also served

1as the Youth Pastor of the historic Shiloh Baptist Church in
2Alexandria, Virginia before transitioning to become the
3Assistant to the Pastor of the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in
4Clinton, Maryland; in January of 2010, he accepted an
5opportunity to return to his home church, New Jerusalem
6Primitive Baptist Church in Miami, Florida as the Assistant
7Pastor; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pastor Duke was installed as Calvary Baptist
9Church's fourth and current pastor on April 22, 2012; the
10church's membership has continued to grow, and several building
11improvements have been made under his leadership; in January
122014, he introduced Calvary's surname, "The Church of Love";
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Pastor Duke and his wife, Tina, are the parents of
15one daughter, Noelle Duke; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18congratulate Pastor Kelon D. Duke on his six years of faithful
19service as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in
20Glenwood, and we wish him and the church continued success and
21joy; and be it further
