HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize The Illinois Mathematics & 
4Science Academy (IMSA) for hosting the 14th Annual 
5International Student Science Fair (ISSF) in Aurora on June 27, 
6through July 1, 2018; this is the first International Student 
7Science Fair hosted in the United States; and
  
           
8    WHEREAS, The five-day event will highlight three global 
9challenges that transcend national boundaries: water, hunger, 
10and energy; through the theme, "to significantly influence life 
11on our planet through cooperation and collaboration," IMSA 
12strives to deepen its mission as the world's leading teaching 
13and learning laboratory for the prosperity and security of 
14present and future generations; and
  
           
15    WHEREAS, The International Student Science Fair provides a 
16festive opportunity for young scientists to showcase their 
17research and compete on an international stage; the fair is 
18organized by the International Science Schools Network (ISSN), 
19which provides a forum for promoting leading-edge science 
20education on a global scale; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, The International Student Science Fair is an 
22annual international event that was officially launched in

12005; visiting students are able to visit local universities 
2and corporate research facilities; approximately 250 students 
3and educators will meet to build professional capacity, share 
4experiences, conduct experiments, engage in workshops, and 
5research independent projects; invitations will be extended to 
640 international STEM schools in addition to other United 
7States and western hemisphere STEM schools; IMSA has been 
8participating since 2007; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, IMSA's mission is "to  ignite and nurture creative, 
10ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition"; as 
11a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of 
12Illinois, the Academy enrolls academically talented Illinois 
13students, grades 10-12, in its advanced residential college 
14preparatory program; additionally, IMSA serves thousands of 
15educators and students in Illinois and beyond through 
16innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and 
17inquiry; the Academy advances education through research, 
18groundbreaking ventures, and strategic partnerships; and
  
 
  
19    WHEREAS, 2018 marks the Illinois Bicentennial; the 
20International Student Science Fair at IMSA has been designated 
21as a key event of the Bicentennial celebration; therefore, be

23    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, we 
2recognize the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy for 
3hosting the 14th Annual International Student Science Fair and 
4for their commitment to promoting diverse perspectives and 
5lifelong learning; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to The Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy as an 
8expression of our esteem and respect.
