HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Animal Welfare League was founded in 1935 to
3stop the suffering of animals in Chicagoland; the Animal
4Welfare League's mission is to prevent cruelty to animals,
5provide quality homes through adoption, promote respect and
6compassion for all creatures through humane education, provide
7shelter and care for homeless and unwanted animals, reduce pet
8overpopulation through its in-house low-cost spay and neuter
9clinic, provide veterinary care for low-income pet owners, and
10relieve the suffering of animals; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Recently, a constituent has voiced concerns about
12the treatment of the animals under the care of the Animal
13Welfare League in Chicago Ridge; allegations include the
14mistreatment of animals by employees and terrible living
15conditions for the animals; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Animal cruelty prevention is a major concern for
17our society, and it is important to put a stop to this silent
18epidemic in the communities across our State; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Illinois has done tremendous work to put policies
20in place to protect animals across our communities to ensure
21they are well taken care of; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3urge an investigation into the treatment of the animals under
4the care of the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge to
5ensure they are following the criteria established in their
6mission statement; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
8presented to the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Chris
9Dogoda.
