HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Craig Roselieb on a
4stellar career spanning 33 years as an instructor of music
5education and wish him well in his upcoming retirement; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb is a 1979 graduate of Downers Grove
7South (DGS) High School; he completed a Bachelor of Music from
8Northern Illinois University in Music Education and Saxophone
9Performance in 1984, where he was a three-year member of the
10NIU Jazz Ensemble under Ron Modell; he was a winner in the 1983
11Concerto Competition on alto saxophone as a student of Steve
12Duke; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb earned a Master of Music in
14Instrumental Conducting from Northwestern University in 1988,
15where he directed the Symphonic Band and Concert Band under
16John P. Paynter, and directed the Jazz Lab Band and played jazz
17tenor in the Northwestern University Jazz Ensemble with Don
18Owens; and
 
19    WHEREAS, After completing his master's degree, Craig
20Roselieb worked for three years at Glenbrook North High School
21and two years at Wheaton Central High School before taking a
22job at his alma mater 28 years ago in 1990; he is currently

1completing his final year as Director of Bands at DGS; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb has taught virtually every music
3class available during his tenure at DGS, and his current
4responsibilities at DGS include the Marching Mustangs, Wind
5Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Wind, Symphony, Symphonic Band, and
6Concert Band; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb has led both domestic and
8international group travel experiences for students to
9destinations including Germany, England, Switzerland, Rome,
10the Czech Republic, San Francisco, Orlando, Hawaii, New
11Orleans, Tampa Bay, the Symphony Center in Chicago, and
12Carnegie Hall; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In recent years, the Marching Band has been a
14three-time finalist in the Illinois State Marching Band
15Championship, the Jazz Ensemble has been a finalist at the
16Essentially Ellington Festival in New York and the Swing
17Central Jazz Festival in Savannah, Georgia, and the Wind
18Ensemble has been selected three times for the University of
19Illinois Superstate Festival; the Jazz Ensemble was also
20selected to perform at the 2011 Midwest Clinic, the 2012
21Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) All-State
22Festival, and the 2012 Chicago Jazz Festival; and

1    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb has served as the ILMEA District I
2President and is currently the ILMEA Jazz Division President;
3he has maintained professional memberships in the National
4Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the American School
5Band Director's Association (ASBDA); and
 
6    WHEREAS, Craig Roselieb has garnered numerous professional
7citations, including the National Band Association Citation
8for Excellence four times, the Chicagoland Outstanding Music
9Educator Award, and the Mr. Holland's Opus Award; therefore, be
10it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13congratulate Craig Roselieb on making a positive difference in
14the lives of the countless students he taught at Downers Grove
15South High School, Glenbrook North High School, and Wheaton
16Central High School, and we wish him the best in all his future
17endeavors; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Craig Roselieb as an expression of our
20appreciation and esteem as he approaches retirement.
