HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Carol Gieske for being
4named the 2018 Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International
5Club of Elgin, Inc.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Carol Gieske is a Certified Fund Raising Executive
7(CFRE) and has dedicated her career to Elgin; for over 20
8years, she provided strong, innovative, and collaborative
9leadership to the United Way of Elgin; she served as president
10for 15 years; while in that role, and with a team of
11extraordinary staff and volunteers, she successfully raised
12more than $44 million dollars to assist those in need through
13the Elgin social service network; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Carol Gieske served as President of the Provena
15Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation (now Presence) and
16successfully raised funds for the hospital's first capital
17campaign in more than 40 years, which resulted in the new
18state-of-the art Bob and Edna Meadows Cancer Care Center and
19the new heart center; the hospital raised more than $11 million
20to accomplish this goal; both centers have made a difference in
21the healthcare needs of the community; and
 
22    WHEREAS, In her current position as President of the Elgin

1Area Chamber of Commerce, Carol Gieske works closely with the
2City of Elgin staff, connects with Elgin City Council members,
3and serves with prestigious Chamber board members who represent
4important community businesses, including Motorola, IHC, Lamp
5Incorporated, Shales McNutt, AT&T, the Village of South Elgin,
6Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin Community College, Gail Borden
7Library, S.D. District U46, Advocate Sherman Hospital,
8Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, and various financial
9institutions and manufacturing firms; she collaborates,
10promotes, and assists the majority of entrepreneurs who are
11Chamber members; she continually recognizes members for their
12achievements, through the annual "high five" awards, volunteer
13luncheons, and business referral networks; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Through the Chamber, Carol Gieske is actively
15involved in the Small Business Academy, the CEO Unplugged
16series, and a multitude of ribbon cuttings, business after
17hours, and economic development meetings and functions; under
18her leadership, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce was named
19among the top three percent of all Chambers nationwide and also
20acquired the United States Chamber Accreditation; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Carol Gieske is an ethical, hard-working,
22organized, and supportive leader; she has always volunteered
23for other organizations in the greater Elgin community; she was
24the first female member inducted into the Elgin Noon Rotary

1Club, where she also served as President; she chairs the Elgin
2Advisory Board to the VNA Health Care; she has been an integral
3part of the award-winning Elgin Area Leadership Academy since
4its inception and is also a graduate of EALA and remains on its
5steering committee; she is on the boards of the Alignment
6Collaborative for Education, the City of Elgin Parks and
7Recreation Foundation, the Elgin Community College Foundation,
8the Fox West Philanthropy Network, the Illinois Comptroller's
9Women's Advisory Board, and Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth's
10Advisory Committee on Small Business; she is also a member of
11the women's professional organization, WIM Fox Valley; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Carol Gieske has given back to her community
13generously through her leadership, volunteer commitments, and
14professional collaborations; she has maintained ethical
15practices and is known as a role model for everyone in
16business; she and her husband, Patrick, have two sons;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20congratulate Carol Gieske on being named the 2018 Woman of the
21Year, and we commend her for her contributions to her community
22and the State of Illinois; and be it further
