HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Robert T. Boey on the
4occasion of his retirement from the Northern Illinois
5University Board of Trustees and his 22 years of committed
6service to Northern Illinois University; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey was among the first individuals
8appointed by former Governor Jim Edgar to serve on the NIU
9Board in 1996; he has served faithfully ever since; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During his time on the Board, Robert T. Boey
11served as Board Chair for two one-year terms, from 1997 until
121999; he also served in the positions of Vice Chair, Secretary,
13and fourth member of the Executive Committee; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Over the last 22 years, Robert T. Boey has
15provided strong guidance and wise council through virtually
16every major challenge and accomplishment of Northern Illinois
17University, including co-chairing two presidential search
18committees; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mr. Boey expressed a personal interest in students
20and sought ways to enhance their education, including providing
21laboratory space in his factory for engineering students during

1the formative years of the NIU Engineering program and by
2mentoring Asian American students at both Kishwaukee College
3and NIU; and
 
4    WHEREAS, During Robert T. Boey's participation on the
5Board, numerous projects have redefined Northern Illinois
6University's physical presence, including the renovation of
7Altgeld Hall and the construction of the Engineering Building,
8Barsema Hall, LaTourette Hall, the Latino Center, Campus Child
9Care, NIU-Naperville, the Convocation Center, the Barsema
10Alumni and Visitor's Center, the Northern View Community, and
11the New Residence Hall; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Not only has Robert T. Boey served on the Board of
13Trustees, but Robert and Doris Boey have been generous donors
14to the NIU Foundation, the Huskie Athletic Fund, the Kishwaukee
15College Foundation, Asian American Resource Center, and many
16other community causes; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Outside of the Northern Illinois University
18family, Robert T. Boey has also been a key community leader and
19has served on the boards of Kishwaukee Community Hospital,
20Kishwaukee Community College, the First National Bank of
21Illinois, and the DeKalb County Economic Development
22Corporation; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey founded American Bare Conductor and
2an industrial park in Sycamore, which brought hundreds of jobs
3to the DeKalb-Sycamore area, and his commitment to his adopted
4hometown included service on numerous community work groups,
5including the City of DeKalb Planning Commission and the DeKalb
6Citizens' Community Enhancement Committee; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey has received numerous awards,
8including the Humanitarian Award for Community Service, the
9Outstanding Volunteer Award from the NIU Foundation, the
10Clifford Danielson Outstanding Citizen Award from the Sycamore
11Chamber of Commerce, and the Friend of the Child Award from
12Community Coordinated Child Care; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate Robert T. Boey on the occasion of his retirement,
16and we wish him continued health and happiness in the coming
17years; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we commend Robert T. Boey for his
19willingness to take on community projects over the years and
20for his faithful service to Northern Illinois University and
21the DeKalb-Sycamore area; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
