HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Reverend Willia Brown on
4her retirement and recognize her 25 years of Professional
5Chaplaincy and Leadership in Pastoral and Spiritual Care as
6well as her notable community service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has demonstrated strong and
8effective leadership at area hospitals, including Schwab
9Rehabilitation Hospital and Care Network, Advocate Bethany
10Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center; in
11collaboration with the Westside Ministers Coalition, Loretto
12Hospital, and Advocate Bethany Hospital, she led a three-day
13training program for clergy that focused on Disaster Spiritual
14Care Response; when she served as a hospice chaplain, she not
15only journeyed with patients through the dying process, she
16sometimes secured burial funds for families in need; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Reverend Brown responded to victims of violence
18and trauma by developing a chaplain's domestic violence and
19sexual assault program; she served as the Chair for the 11th
20District Police Domestic Violence Subcommittee and worked with
21their Clergy Subcommittee for nearly five years; she also
22served with the 15th District Police, where she designed a
23training program on community engagement for members of the

1clergy; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Reverend Brown further connected with the
3community by training over 50 volunteers to minister and
4support patients and their family members during their
5admission to the hospitals; she also raised funds to support
6the training of community clergy in Clinical Pastoral
7Education, a higher level of hospital clergy training; and
 
8    WHEREAS, At her office desk, Reverend Brown answered
9telephone calls from people in local communities who asked for
10pastoral support during times of depression, threat of suicide,
11and unemployment; she helped parents who were in need of
12clothing so their children could attend school; she assisted
13those who needed food and furniture for their homes; she
14demonstrated compassionate and sensitive leadership; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Reverend Brown's work and ministry assisted many
16in the communities of Chicago and the suburban areas; as a
17chaplain, her pastoral care, patience, and understanding were
18felt at the bedsides of patients in hospitals, nursing homes,
19assisted living facilities, and their own homes; she
20compassionately and skillfully worked with patients through
21their pain and suffering when they felt hopeless and helpless;
22therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate Reverend Willia Brown on her 25 years of faithful
4and dedicated care and community service to the people of the
5Chicago area and the State of Illinois, and we wish her the
6best in her future endeavors; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Reverend Brown as an expression of our esteem and
9respect.
