HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Developmentally appropriate full-day kindergarten
3can offer a more relaxed atmosphere and more opportunities for
4child-centered, creative activities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Full-day programs provide more time for field
6trips, activity centers, projects, and free play; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Students with delayed development, disabilities,
8or limited preschool experiences, who attend rigorous and
9nurturing full-day programs, are more likely to have stronger
10achievements in basic skill areas and are generally better
11prepared for first grade; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Full-day kindergarten programs can help increase
13academic achievement for most children, while reducing the
14probability that children will be retained in the early
15elementary grades; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18support the idea that students may benefit from full-day
19kindergarten programs.
