HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, An estimated 24.9 million people globally are
3trapped in the modern-day slavery that is human trafficking;
4Illinois had 202 confirmed cases in 2016 alone, with each
5victim being held an average of 20.5 months before release; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Seventy-one percent of all human trafficking
7victims are female, 25% are children, and a significant number
8are immigrants; the majority of this 150 billion dollar dark
9"industry" is represented by sex trafficking; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria has
11long recognized the prevalence of human trafficking within all
12geographic regions, including Central Illinois, and was
13awarded a prestigious grant to help fight it locally; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Center for Prevention of Abuse is committed to
15helping all local survivors of human trafficking reclaim
16control over their lives, to feel safe while enjoying physical
17and emotional health, and to realize the human rights to which
18they are entitled; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Center for Prevention of Abuse created and
20launched their new Human Trafficking Division in January of
212018; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate the Center for Prevention of Abuse on their most
4recent success in fulfilling their mission to help all men,
5women, and children live free from violence and abuse; and be
6it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we commend the Center for Prevention of
8Abuse for the necessary services they are now providing for
9this especially vulnerable group of victims, while
10simultaneously fostering an increased level of public
11awareness about this serious issue; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13presented to the Director of the Center for Prevention of Abuse
14Carol Merna and the Center's Director of Human Trafficking
15Services Sara Dillefeld.
