HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Dogs play an important role in the lives of many
3Illinois citizens by serving as companions, therapy dogs, and
4assistance dogs; and
 
5    WHEREAS, It is recognized that dog-related problems are
6most often caused by irresponsible owners; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Responsible dog ownership is encouraged in
8Illinois and responsible owners should properly control and
9provide adequate training for their dogs; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Canine Good Citizen programs identify and
11officially recognize those dogs who behave as members in good
12standing with the community; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The "Canine Good Citizen Program", developed by
14the American Kennel Club, teaches pet owners that dogs should
15exhibit "good citizen" behaviors in the presence of other
16people and animals, in both the home and community; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Children and adults of all ages participate in
18Canine Good Citizen classes to learn the skills involved in
19responsible dog ownership; and

1    WHEREAS, With dog bites and animal concerns on the rise,
2there is a need for dogs to remain well-behaved community
3members; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6endorse the American Kennel Club's "Canine Good Citizen
7Program" and support its efforts to promote responsible dog
8ownership in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the American Kennel Club as a symbol of our
11respect and esteem.
