HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4McKinley "Roosevelt" Barry, who passed away on May 12, 2017;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Barry was born in Etta, Mississippi to Rev.
7McKinley and Fletter Bruce Barry on September 24, 1934; he was
8a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford,
9Mississippi and graduated from Oxford Training School in 1956,
10where he played football; he served in the United States Army
11for two years starting in 1956; he married Zellner in 1969 and
12earned his associate's degree from Kennedy King College in
131971; he received a degree in auto mechanics from Greer
14Technical Institute; and
 
15    WHEREAS, James Barry worked for the United States Post
16Office in Chicago; later, he became a supervisor of fueling and
17cleaning at United Airlines for 34 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, James Barry was a member of the Oxford Training
19School Alumni Association; he was a member of Bellevue Baptist
20Church, where he served on the maintenance committee and was
21instrumental in the planning process for the Bellevue Ministry
22Center; he enjoyed gardening and reading the latest edition of

1the Oxford Eagle; and
 
2    WHEREAS, James Barry was preceded in death by his parents
3and his siblings, Mildred Barry, Ardelia McJunkins, Edward
4Barry, Roy L. Barry, Melvin Barry, Fred Barry, and Sam W.
5Barry; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Barry is survived by his wife, Zellner; his
7children, Bruce Dewayne (Tasha) Henry, Bernard McKinley (Gina)
8Barry, and Ronald A. Barry; his grandchildren, Bianca Barry,
9Terrel Barry, Brandi Henry, Kaleah Henry, Saniyya Henry, and
10Xavier McKinley Barry; his great-grandchildren, Hunter,
11Madyson, and Marlee; his godchildren, Robbie Douglas, Sherry
12Alford, Shelly Ward, and Sharon Green; his sisters, Marie
13Humes, Rev. Lois Glover, and Annie Williams; and numerous
14nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of James McKinley "Roosevelt" Barry, and
18extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
19who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of James Barry as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
