HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Conrad Worrill on the
4occasion of his retirement as Director of the Jacob H.
5Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies on the Northeastern
6Illinois University campus after 12 years of service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill has served as a professor at the
8Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, and as Department Chair
9and Academic Program Coordinator for the Inner City Studies
10program; and
 
11    WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Dr. Worrill has advanced
12causes such as educational restructuring, human rights,
13reparations, and political and economic empowerment for the
14black community; his activism is defined by his leadership in
15organizations and his activities at the forefront of social and
16racial justice, African-centered education, African
17liberation, and self-determination for people of African
18descent; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill has been an active participant in the
20Black Power, civil rights, and human rights movements; he was
21the special consultant for field operations for the historic
22Million Man March and was a street organizer for Harold

1Washington's mayoral campaign; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill served as Chairman, and now Chairman
3Emeritus, of the National Black United Front; he is a board
4member of the Black United Fund of Illinois; he is a lifetime
5member of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in
6America, and a member of the Kemetic Institute, the Association
7for the Study of Classical African Civilizations, and the
8Association of African Historians; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill earned a bachelor's degree from George
10Williams College, a master's degree from the University of
11Chicago, and a doctoral degree from the University of
12Wisconsin; his major field of study was black political and
13movement history, social theory, and curriculum and
14instruction; after his retirement, he will continue to write,
15lecture, and consult on issues that challenge the African
16world; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Dr. Conrad Worrill on his retirement as Director
20of the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, and
21we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it
