SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
415 ILCS 5/19.11 new

    Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Requires the Environmental Protection Agency, in coordination with the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, to make an assessment of available treatment technologies for reducing and removing compounds of emerging concern from wastewater treatment facilities, the statewide applicability of the treatment technologies, and the costs associated with the treatment technologies. Requires the Agency and Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to submit a report of findings from the assessment to the General Assembly by June 30, 2020. Defines "compounds of emerging concern".

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
5adding Section 19.11 as follows:
 
6    (415 ILCS 5/19.11 new)
7    Sec. 19.11. Compounds of emerging concern assessment. As
8used in this Section, "compounds of emerging concern" means
9pharmaceutical and personal care products, and endocrine
10disrupting compounds.
11    The Agency, in coordination with the Illinois Sustainable
12Technology Center, shall make an assessment of available
13treatment technologies for reducing and removing compounds of
14emerging concern from wastewater treatment facilities, the
15statewide applicability of the treatment technologies, and the
16costs associated with the treatment technologies. The Agency
17and Illinois Sustainable Technology Center shall submit a
18report of findings from the assessment to the General Assembly
19by June 30, 2020.
