SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/22-85 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that State funds may not be used to fund a non-profit teacher training program that has (i) a 2-year residency requirement for a corps member of Teach for America and (ii) no requirements for formal teacher training prior to admitting an individual into the program. Effective July 1, 2018.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
522-85 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/22-85 new)
7    Sec. 22-85. Non-profit teacher training program; State
8funds. State funds may not be used to fund a non-profit teacher
9training program that has (i) a 2-year residency requirement
10for a corps member of Teach for America and (ii) no
11requirements for formal teacher training prior to admitting an
12individual into the program. Nothing in this Section shall be
13construed to prevent State funding for an Alternative Educator
14Licensure Program for Teachers under Section 21B-50 of this
15Code.
 
16    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
172018.
