SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
40 ILCS 5/15-169  from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 15-169

    Amends the State Universities Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that the Board shall make best efforts to ensure that the racial and ethnic makeup of the System's senior administrative staff represents the racial and ethnic makeup of the System's membership. Provides that "senior administrative staff" includes, but is not limited to, the Executive Director, the Chief Investment Officer, the General Counsel and Freedom of Information Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Member Services, the Director of Outreach, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Internal Audit, the Director of Operations, and the Director of Application Development and Research. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing
5Section 15-169 as follows:
 
6    (40 ILCS 5/15-169)  (from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 15-169)
7    Sec. 15-169. To elect officers and appoint employees.
8    (a) To elect officers; to appoint a secretary and
9treasurer; to have a seal; to employ and fix the rate of pay of
10such actuarial, legal, clerical, audit, medical, or other
11services, or corporate trustee organized under the laws of this
12State with a capital of not less than $1,000,000, or investment
13counsel and other persons as shall be required for the
14efficient administration of the system. All actions brought by
15or against the board shall be prosecuted or defended by the
16Attorney General. If the board pursues a mandamus action under
17Section 15-156 of this Code as amended by Senate Bill No. 1 of
18the 98th General Assembly in the form passed by the General
19Assembly, then the board may select the counsel of their
20choice.
21    (b) The Board shall make its best efforts to ensure that
22the racial and ethnic makeup of the System's senior
23administrative staff represents the racial and ethnic makeup of

1the System's membership.
2    As used in this subsection, "senior administrative staff"
3includes, but is not limited to, the Executive Director, the
4Chief Investment Officer, the General Counsel and Freedom of
5Information Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, the Director
6of Member Services, the Director of Outreach, the Director of
7Human Resources, the Director of Internal Audit, the Director
8of Operations, and the Director of Application Development and
9Research.

11    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
12becoming law.
