Amends the State Universities Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that the Board shall make best efforts to ensure that the racial and ethnic makeup of the System's senior administrative staff represents the racial and ethnic makeup of the System's membership. Provides that "senior administrative staff" includes, but is not limited to, the Executive Director, the Chief Investment Officer, the General Counsel and Freedom of Information Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Member Services, the Director of Outreach, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Internal Audit, the Director of Operations, and the Director of Application Development and Research. Effective immediately.

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing |
| 5 | | Section 15-169 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (40 ILCS 5/15-169) (from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 15-169)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 15-169. To elect officers and appoint employees. |
| 8 | | (a) To elect officers; to appoint a secretary and |
| 9 | | treasurer; to have a seal;
to employ and fix the rate of pay of |
| 10 | | such actuarial, legal, clerical, audit, medical, or other |
| 11 | | services, or corporate trustee
organized under the laws of this |
| 12 | | State with a capital of not less than
$1,000,000, or investment |
| 13 | | counsel and other persons as shall be required
for the |
| 14 | | efficient administration of the system.
All actions brought by |
| 15 | | or against the board shall be prosecuted or
defended by the |
| 16 | | Attorney General. If the board pursues a mandamus action under |
| 17 | | Section 15-156 of this Code as amended by Senate Bill No. 1 of |
| 18 | | the 98th General Assembly in the form passed by the General |
| 19 | | Assembly, then the board may select the counsel of their |
| 20 | | choice.
