SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Sanctuary State Act. Provides that a law enforcement agency of the State or its political subdivisions shall not use State funds, equipment, personnel, or resources nor accept or utilize federal funds, equipment, personnel or resources for the purpose of detecting or apprehending persons whose only violation of law is that they are persons of foreign citizenship who have entered or are residing in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Sanctuary State Act.
 
6    Section 5. Law enforcement agencies; enforcement of
7federal immigration laws. A law enforcement agency of the State
8or its political subdivisions shall not use State funds,
9equipment, personnel or resources nor accept or utilize federal
10funds, equipment, personnel, or resources for the purpose of
11detecting or apprehending persons whose only violation of law
12is that they are persons of foreign citizenship who have
13entered or are residing in the United States of America in
14violation of federal immigration laws in Title 8 of the United
15States Code, unless otherwise legally required to do so.
 
16    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17becoming law.
