Biography: As the founder of a software development firm, Representative Munson brings years of technology and business experience to the forefront of the Illinois General Assembly. Ruth received a BA in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 1981. That, plus her longstanding personal, as well as familial, dedication to public service, eventually led her to be elected to the Elgin City Council in 1999. There, Ruth served on the Economic Development Council and Technology Action Team. During her tenure as councilwoman, Elgin began the process of revitalizing its Center City, expanded its recreational facilities, lowered crime and gang-related activity, and increased economic development. Other organizations in which Ruth has been affiliated include the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, Fiesta Salsa, the Small Business Development Center Advisory Council, Elgin Community College Foundation, Elgin Hispanic Network, YWCA, First Congregational Church of Elgin and Carpentersville Youth Development Collaborative. Married since 1984, Ruth and her husband Steve are raising their two teenage children in Elgin.
