SECTION 426.50 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS


 

Section 426.50  Performance Requirements

 

a)         No reflector for use on a bicycle, excluding those reflectors used on bicycle pedals, shall be considered to be in conformance with the specifications of the Department of Transportation unless the reflector is a reflex reflector which fulfills the performance requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 (49 CFR 571.108), as hereafter amended.

 

b)         No reflector for use on a bicycle pedal shall be considered to be in conformance with the specifications of the Department of Transportation unless the reflector is a reflex reflector which

 

1)         Meets or exceeds the mechanical test requirements for reflectors under Section 426.50 above; and

 

2)         Meets or exceeds photometric requirements set forth in Table I. below.

These photometric measurements shall be determined in accordance with the testing procedures as detailed in Society Automotive Engineers (SAE) Standard J594e, "Reflex Reflectors", 1973, SAE Handbook, Pages 768-69.
