SECTION 690.590 PSITTACOSIS (ORNITHOSIS) (REPORTABLE BY MAIL, TELEPHONE, FACSIMILE OR ELECTRONICALLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, WITHIN 7 DAYS)


 

Section 690.590  Psittacosis (Ornithosis) (Reportable by mail, telephone, facsimile or electronically as soon as possible, within 7 days)

 

a)         Control of Case.  Standard Precautions shall be followed.

 

b)         Control of Contacts.  No restrictions.

 

c)         Control of Infected Birds and Premises.  If information on the source of the birds suspected of exposing the person to psittacosis is available, the Department will provide this information to the Illinois Department of Agriculture for follow-up.

 

d)         Laboratory Reporting. Laboratories shall report to the local health authority patients who have a positive result on any laboratory test indicative of and specific for detection of Chlamydophila psittaci infection.
